Why did you hire me?
The statement above is one I hope I don't ever hear, but it is one I have certainly asked my boss before. Notice I said boss and not a Leader.
You phone screen, get invited to interview, get the job offer and get started. After settling in, you see some issues that could be changed, but they have always done it this way. When you present your suggestion, you are immediately turned down and told that's not going to work here.
This is a toxic work environment and you need to stop and ask yourself how to handle this. Don't be afraid to challenge the decision, but challenge it with respect. Ask why it will not work here. Get your team involved and ask them for feedback.
Nothing will wreck your self-esteem worse than always being told no. You may start to doubt your ability, and then you start second guessing everything.
Remember you were hired for a reason, but you need to figure out that reason. Work for a company that respects you and your decisions. Never doubt your worth. When times are tough, remain positive and always be the one that can make a difference.
It's amazing how you will feel, when you feel valued, empowered, and a part of the company.
I will be sharing this type of experience very soon as part of my podcast along with some of my story of why I decided to be a leader and to act as a servant leader.
